Middleton in Teesdale is a small, picturesque, stone-built market town, nestling beside the River Tees and flanked by the Pennine Fells.
The Auction Mart is situated on the outskirts of the village, right next to the River Tees and was established in 1924 as a co-operative by farmers and local businessmen.
Livestock from Middleton Mart has long enjoyed an excellent reputation for high quality and hardiness. Seasonal livestock sales are held there. These photographs were taken at the sale of store cattle and suckled calves in November 2007.
